One opportunity for home performance contractors to establish credibility and distinguish themselves from other remodeling contractors and low-bid or component-based home improvement contractors is to become certified by the Building Performance Industry (BPI.org). Several organizations offer home performance training, and as the industry grows, BPI certification may become an important quality assurance tool, especially for programs and jurisdictions that offer incentives, financing, and/or public funds for home performance work. To become certified in any category, candidates must pass a written and field test, both proctored by BPI.
Regardless of where or how you received training, this session is an opportunity to take up to four written exams:
- Building Analyst - Envelope Specialist - Heating Specialist - AC & Heat Pump Specialist
PG&E supplies the BPI proctor, but students must pay test fees ($150 per exam) to BPI.
