This assessment will build in-depth understanding of the operation of CO2-based refrigeration systems and a validated model of the energy savings compared to the other equipment.  The measured performance of a CO2/NH3 Cascade system over a six month period was compared to the calculated performance of a comparable stat of the art two stage ammonia system.  This first of a kind in California CO2/NH3 Cascade system uses CO2 as a refrigeration fluid for low temperature processes in place of freon and ammonia, with benefits in environmental impact and energy efficiency.  For more information, contact the sponsoring organization.
