About 25% of buildings—including many large commercial buildings, hospitals, large retail stores, colleges and high schools, data centers, wineries, and industrial/manufacturing plant—use chillers or chilled water in their operations. This project examines demand-based building controls for cooling plants and their air handling equipment. A completely new approach, demand-based controls rely on performance or load -- rather than predetermined setpoints -- to optimize equipment operation. Early estimates indicate that this technology could shave almost 3 percent off commercial electric consumption. For more information, please contact the sponsoring organization.
