This report summarizes a street lighting assessment project conducted to determine the potential of broad spectrum lighting utilized with LED and induction light sources in a street lighting application. In this project, LED and induction luminaires from different manufacturers replaced existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights, including an intersection, along a one mile section of a main street in San Diego, California. Side-by-side assessments tested energy consumption and lighting quality. Quantitative light and power measurements, objective visibility detection ‘performance’ test and a subjective lighting survey were administered.
