The introduction of the low wattage ceramic metal halide (CMH) lamp and associated luminaires has created a new, efficacious lighting alternative to incandescent. This report evaluates the practical application of the CMH lamp in the retail environment. The objective of this report is to compare 37W MR16 Infrared Reflector (IR) and 20W BT-5 Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) sources on the basis of energy, performance, aesthetics, availability, cost, and ease of maintenance. The objective is also to evaluate the success and payback of the use of CMH lamps in a retail environment.
