This project examines the energy efficiency potential and viability of lighting emitting diode (LED) lighting at an underground parking garage at a major hotel in San Francisco. Light-emitting diode (LED) lights are emerging as a viable alternative for outdoor locations such as parking lots, parking garages, and streets, which typically use wallpaks and bollards lit with high wattage, high intensity discharge (HID) or fluorescent lights. In addition to increased energy efficiency, LEDs offer longer bulb life, reliability, and cool operating temperatures. LED sources are currently considerably more expensive than fluorescent, but prices are expected to drop as demand increases.
