In this project, a demand control lighting (DCL) system was installed in a portion of a retail hardware store to evaluate the demand response effectiveness of this technology.
Most lighting control systems turn lighting circuits on or off and are hardwired to an energy management command center. In contrast, the DCL system investigated in this project uses dimming ballasts to control fluorescent lighting, and can be operated by the utility through any computer connected to the internet.
