Backlit display lightboxes are used in a variety of applications including restaurant menu boards, movie theater poster displays, and advertisements in airports, train/subway stations, shopping malls, casinos, and stadiums. This evaluation studied three different light source technologies in three different sizes. The light source technologies included traditional linear fluorescent lamps, traditional cold cathode fluorescent lamps, and new LED sources. The three different sizes included small (20”x24”), medium (36”x48”), and large (40”x60”) lightboxes. The performance metrics include power, luminance and color measurements.
