Keeping Californians in cool air and warm water takes a hefty dose of gas and electricity. Energy efficiency improvements in air conditioning and water heating have helped families throughout the state save money and energy. Emerging Technologies is testing a variety of air cooling and water heating technologies, and making the best available to customers. Since California's population is expected to grow from 37 million to 50 million by 2040, the need for identifying, testing, and bringing new energy efficiency technologies to the residential market becomes all the more pressing.

Some recent studies have performed preliminary investigations into the differences in efficiency and operation of furnaces, including the evaluation of high efficiency prototype blowers. Unfortunately there is no uniform, single...

Air conditioning (AC) is the primary cause of peak electrical demand during California’s hot summers. This project evaluates air conditioners that perform better in hot dry conditions, resulting in reduced...

California and other states with hot dry climates need air conditioners that maximize indoor temperature reductions for the expended energy. This is particularly true at high outdoor temperatures. This study...

An indirect evaporative cooling technology has been developed and produced on a small scale under the brand name Coolerado Cooler. This project will purchase a single unit of an...

Two-stage or indirect-direct evaporative cooling technology offers the best opportunity for replacing air conditioning in California. The existing two-stage evaporative cooler on the market does not achieve the full...

This project seeks to establish demand response (DR) potential for home entertainment equipment. This project is part of a multi-phase, multi-year effort to evaluate the possible incorporation of DR regulations...
