Code Readiness Commercial Hybrid HPWH Heater Research: Data Brief on Preliminary Findings from Field Monitoring Studies

Project Number CR24PGE0302-2 Organization PG&E End-use Water Heating/DHW/HPWH Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2024 - 2026
Description

The Code Readiness research team is conducting field monitoring studies on commercial hybrid HPWH systems installed in nonresidential buildings located in California. The intent of this research is to better understand energy performance of the commercial hybrid 120-gallon HPWH systems recently installed as a retrofit of natural gas water heating systems in hotel/motel and grocery store buildings. This data brief presents preliminary findings from two nonresidential HPWH monitoring studies. This data brief is part of the same research project investigating return to primary configurations in central HPWH systems installed in multifamily buildings (see ETCC project number CR24PGE0302-2). A final report will be published following the conclusion of several additional multifamily field demonstrations happening through March 2026. The final report will include findings from both the nonresidential and multifamily field demonstrations.
