Where the Heat Goes: Field Findings on Thermal Energy Storage in HVAC Systems

Project Number CR24PGE0201-1 Organization PG&E End-use HVAC Sector Commercial Project Year(s) 2024 - 2025
Description

By shifting HVAC energy demand away from current and future grid peaks, TES can reduce strain on the grid without requiring that building occupant’s compromise their comfort. Long used to provide flexibility for domestic hot water applications, this Code Readiness study confirms the high market penetration of TES installations in California, as well as that these installs deliver both significant peak demand reduction and financial value for buildings and grid operators.
